New Insurance Collection Feature to Enrollment

Posted Date: 8/11/25 (8:41 AM)

Hello Milpitas Families,

You may have noticed that a new part of enrollment and registration this year is to provide your families’ insurance information. Milpitas Unified School District, in partnership with the State of California, is participating in the Children and Youth Behavioral Health Initiative (CYBHI) Fee Schedule program. This program requires health plans and insurers, including MediCal, to reimburse public schools for mental and behavioral health services provided to students under 26. These services are already offered by schools, though securing ongoing funding is a challenge.

To receive reimbursement, the district must submit claims to insurers, which requires that we have families’ insurance information. State law ensures families will not be charged any costs (like co-pays or deductibles), nor will it affect insurance coverage. Services will only be billed with family consent, which providers will obtain prior to beginning services.

Families can opt out of providing insurance information, however, we highly encourage you to submit it so that we can secure vital funding for these essential services with no cost to you. Please see this informational flyer in English, Spanish and Vietnamese that summarizes this information.

Thank you for your support!
